WHY WORK WITH ME

Q. Why should I work with a travel advisor instead of booking myself?

The internet makes it easy to book a trip. What it can't do is tell you which room has the best view, which guide is worth the splurge, or which restaurant is actually worth the reservation. I bring real industry knowledge, a trusted network of fellow advisors with firsthand experience worldwide, and genuine supplier relationships. The result: curated recommendations, VIP perks, and upgrades you won't find booking on your own — plus I handle every detail so your time stays yours.

Q. I love doing my own research on destinations and hotels. How would working with a travel advisor benefit me?

If you love the research, you'll appreciate working with someone who takes it just as seriously. The difference is I have access to information you can't find online — firsthand property knowledge, relationships with hotel managers, and insider intel from a network of advisors traveling the world constantly. Think of me as a shortcut to the best version of the trip you were already planning, plus perks and upgrades layered on top.

Q. Why would I book through you if I have AmEx Platinum?

As a Brownell Travel affiliate and Virtuoso member, I have access to the same perks as AmEx — and often better. More importantly, I have genuine personal relationships with the hotels and the people who run them. That means you're not just another booking in the system — you're a known, welcomed guest who is flagged for preferential treatment before you even arrive.

Q. I get perks booking hotels through my credit card. Is that the same as what Betsy Taft Travel offers?

Credit card perks are great, but they're automated — you're one of millions of cardholders. What I offer is different: as a Brownell Travel affiliate and Virtuoso member, your reservation is flagged personally to the hotel, often with a note from me directly to the property manager. That translates to a higher likelihood of upgrades, better room placement, and the kind of welcome that feels genuinely personal rather than transactional.

Q. Why are hotel and cruise bookings complimentary?

Four- and five-star hotels and cruise lines pay travel advisors a commission as a standard part of how they do business — we're essentially a marketing channel for them. So for these bookings, I am getting paid, just not by you.

Q. Will I pay more if I book through Betsy Taft Travel — and do you have access to better rates?

The rates I have access to are typically the same as what you'd find booking directly — and in some cases better. Beyond the rate itself, I add perks and amenities you won't find booking on your own: upgrades, hotel credits, complimentary breakfast, early check-in, and more. If I can't match or beat the rate you've found online, I'll tell you to book direct.

HOW I WORK

Q. What does the planning process look like?

We start with a conversation about your trip vision, travel style, and preferences. From there I get to work on research and recommendations, present options for your feedback, and refine until everything feels exactly right. Once you're happy, I handle all reservations and confirmations — and stay in touch through departure and beyond.

Q. How do you communicate with clients throughout the planning process?

We'll start with a call to talk through your trip and get to know each other. From there, email is my preferred method of communication — it keeps everything organized and easy to reference. I'm always happy to jump on a call for bigger decisions or to talk through details. You can be as involved or as hands-off as you'd like.

Q. How are my itinerary and final trip information delivered?

Your final itinerary is delivered via a mobile app — confirmations, tips, and every detail organized and easily accessible, all in one place. You'll leave home knowing everything is handled.

Q. How far in advance should I reach out?

Earlier is always better. For most trips, six months gives us plenty of runway. For high-demand destinations like Africa or Japan, or peak travel periods like Thanksgiving and Christmas, a year or more in advance is ideal. I also work with clients on longer-term travel planning — mapping out trips years ahead for those who like to have something to look forward to.

Q. Do you provide support during the trip if something goes wrong?

If something comes up while you're traveling — a flight change, a hotel issue, an unexpected hiccup — I'm reachable and ready to help sort it out. You won't be navigating problems alone.

WHAT I BOOK

Q. What types of trips do you plan?

Family vacations, multi-generational trips, girls' weekends, honeymoons, milestone celebrations, solo travel, and everything in between. If it involves getting somewhere and staying somewhere, I can help.

Q. Do you book flights?

Yes, as part of a full itinerary. I don't book standalone flights only.

Q. Do you book villas or rental homes?

Yes — I have access to exclusive villas and private residences around the world, in addition to hotels and resorts.

Q. Can you book using my points?

I'm not able to apply points toward flight or hotel reservations, but I can add your rewards number to bookings so you continue earning on every trip.

Q. Do you only work with certain hotels?

I work with hotels across the board, though my specialty is four- and five-star luxury properties where my preferred partner relationships deliver the most value.

Q. Do you book groups or weddings?

Yes — I can help with room blocks and group travel coordination for weddings, family reunions, corporate retreats, and other group trips.

FEES

Q. How do you get paid?

Like most travel advisors, I earn a commission from hotels, tour operators, and other travel partners when I book on your behalf — at no added cost to you. For certain services, a planning fee may apply.

Q. What is your planning fee?

Planning fees vary by service. Hotel and cruise bookings are complimentary. The Shortlist and Journey services have fees that reflect the time and expertise involved — details are on the Services page.

OTHER

Q. Do you recommend travel insurance?

Strongly. Travel insurance protects your investment against the unexpected — trip cancellations, medical emergencies, delays, and more. I recommend purchasing coverage shortly after your initial bookings are confirmed, and I'm happy to point you toward reputable providers.
